Course Name: Noise Pollution - ENS 296 - 4 Hrs/week

Aims:

To develop a fundamental appreciation and understanding of the application of physics and instrumentation in acoustic, noise pollution, and control methods.

 

 

Course Content:

 

Wave Equation for Airborne Sound.

Characteristics and Analysis of Sound Waves.

Measurement of Sound and Sound Level Meter.

Frequency Analysis of Noise.

Noise Dose.

Statistical noise analysis.

Speech, Hearing and Audiometric test.

Effects of Noise on People.

Outdoor Community Noise, Transportation Noise, Industrial Noise.

Basic Principles of Noise Control.

Acoustical Treatment.

Hearing Protection.

 

 

Learning Outcomes:

The student will know and be able to do following as the result of learning:

Understand the effects of noise pollution.

Understand the basic methodology of environmental noise measurement.

Understand the statistical analysis of noise levels.

Understand basic techniques for preventing and controlling noise pollution.

 

 

Evaluation Methods:

 Student performance evaluated through quiz, final exam, and laboratory exam.
